Rolf Preus in order to share the good news of salvation by grace through faith in Christ alone through sermons, papers, and Bible studies. His son, who is also a pastor in the Lutheran Church, has continued this project of sharing orthodox Lutheran theology with the chief focus on Christ for Us.

Rev. Rolf Preus served as a Lutheran parish pastor from July 1, 1979 to August 9, 2020. For most of his ministry, he recorded his sermons on the radio. Christ for Us is also the name of the fifteen-minute Confessional Lutheran radio broadcast, which airs these sermons. In 1999 he started the Christ for Us website to share his sermons and theological papers. In August of 2020, Rev. Rolf Preus retired and handed the Christ for Us broadcast to his son, Rev. James Preus. Christ for Us is now broadcasted on the radio in North Dakota, Minnesota, and in Ottumwa, IA.

About Us

The name, Christ for Us, focuses on the heart of the Gospel and the Christian religion. We recite in the Nicene Creed, “Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven…” Who? Christ. For us the Son of God took on human flesh in order to save us. St. Paul writes in Galatians 3, “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us.” And again, in Ephesians 5, “And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.” And in Romans 5, “God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

This is the Gospel in simplest terms. Christ is born for us; he died for us; he is risen for us. He sits at the right hand of God the Father interceding for us (Romans 8:34). The Gospel is the Good News that Jesus saves us. We receive his forgiveness, righteousness, and salvation through faith alone apart from our works (Romans 3:24-28; Ephesians 2:8-9). Too often when someone is asked how a person is saved, the answer focuses on what we must do. But that is not the Gospel. The Gospel focuses on what Christ has done for us. And we believe it and so receive it.

This Gospel is the clear message of Holy Scripture and alone gives a sinner full confidence in his salvation. “If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31) This is why we also subscribe to the Lutheran Confessions, because they are a correct exposition of Holy Scripture. The chief article of the chief document of the Lutheran Confessions is Article IV of the Augsburg Confession:

“Also, they teach that men cannot be justified before God by their own strength, merit, or works, but are freely justified for Christ’s sake, through faith, when they believe that they are received into favor, and that their sins are forgiven for Christ’s sake, who, by His death, has made satisfaction for our sins. This faith God imputes for righteousness in His sight. Romans 3 and 4.”

Christ for Us is devoted to this Gospel. It is the greatest treasure we can possess.

Contributors

Rolf Preus

Rev.
