So they are without excuse.\u00a0<strong><sup>21\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they\u00a0became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. <strong>Romans 1:20-21<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The heavens declare the glory of God,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and the sky above\u00a0proclaims his handiwork. <strong>Psalm 19:1<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Our consciences testify against us.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><sup>28\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God,\u00a0God gave them up to\u00a0a debased mind to do\u00a0what ought not to be done.\u00a0<strong><sup>29\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips,\u00a0<strong><sup>30\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents,\u00a0<strong><sup>31\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless.\u00a0<strong><sup>32\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Though they know\u00a0God&#8217;s righteous decree that those who practice such things\u00a0deserve to die, they not only do them but\u00a0give approval to those who practice them. <strong>Romans 1:28-32<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><sup>12\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>For all who have sinned\u00a0without the law will also perish without the law, and all who have sinned under the law will be judged by the law.\u00a0<strong><sup>13\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>For\u00a0it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law who will be justified.\u00a0<strong><sup>14\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>For when Gentiles, who do not have the law,\u00a0by nature do what the law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law.\u00a0<strong><sup>15\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>They show that the work of the law is\u00a0written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness, and their conflicting thoughts accuse or even excuse them\u00a0<strong><sup>16\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>on that day when,\u00a0according to my gospel, God judges\u00a0the secrets of men\u00a0by Christ Jesus. <strong>Romans 2:12-16<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><sup>\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>\u201cMen,\u00a0why are you doing these things? We also are men,\u00a0of like nature with you, and we bring you good news, that\u00a0you should turn from these\u00a0vain things to\u00a0a living God,\u00a0who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and all that is in them.\u00a0<strong><sup>16\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>In past generations he\u00a0allowed all the nations\u00a0to walk in their own ways.\u00a0<strong><sup>17\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>Yet\u00a0he did not leave himself without witness, for he\u00a0did good by\u00a0giving you rains from heaven and\u00a0fruitful seasons, satisfying your hearts with\u00a0food and\u00a0gladness.\u201d\u00a0<strong>Acts 14:15-17<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cMen of Athens, I perceive that in every way you are very religious. 23 For as I passed along and observed the objects of your worship, I found also an altar with this inscription: \u2018To the unknown god.\u2019 What therefore you worship as unknown, this I proclaim to you. 24 The God who made the world and everything in it, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in temples made by man, 25 nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mankind life and breath and everything. 26 And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place, 27 that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him. Yet he is actually not far from each one of us, 28 for \u201c\u2018In him we live and move and have our being\u2019; as even some of your own poets have said, \u201c\u2018For we are indeed his offspring.\u2019 29 Being then God&#8217;s offspring, we ought not to think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone, an image formed by the art and imagination of man. 30 The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent, 31 because he has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed; and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead.\u201d <strong>Acts 17:22-31<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This leaves man \u201cwithout excuse,\u201d but nature does not reveal righteousness perfectly to us. \u201cYet if it had not been for the law,\u00a0I would not have known sin. For I would not have known what it is to covet if\u00a0the law had not said, \u2018You shall not covet.\u2019\u201d <strong>Romans 7:7<\/strong><ul><li>Martin Luther writes in the Heidelberg Disputation, Thesis 19, \u201cThat person does not deserve to be called a theologian who looks upon the invisible things of God as though they were clearly perceptible in those things which have actually happened [Rom. 1:20]. [been made; \u03c4\u03bf\u1fd6\u03c2 \u03c0\u03bf\u03af\u03b7\u03bc\u03b1\u03c3\u03b9\u03bd] This is apparent in the example of those who were \u2018theologians\u2019 and still were called fools by the Apostle in Rom. 1 [:22]. Furthermore, the invisible things of God are virtue, godliness, wisdom, justice, goodness, and so forth. The recognition of these things does not make one worthy or wise.\u201d<\/li><\/ul>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Luther points out that Paul lists idolatry as works of the flesh which bar someone from inheriting the kingdom of God in Galatians 5.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Knowledge through Revelation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Christianity is based on historical events that can be verified by the testimony of witnesses unlike the myths of paganism.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Inasmuch as many have undertaken to compile a narrative of the things that\u00a0have been accomplished among us,\u00a0<strong><sup>2\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>just as those who\u00a0from the beginning were\u00a0eyewitnesses and\u00a0ministers of\u00a0the word\u00a0have delivered them to us,\u00a0<strong><sup>3\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>it seemed good to me also, having followed all things closely for some time past, to write\u00a0an orderly account for you,\u00a0most excellent\u00a0Theophilus,\u00a0<strong><sup>4\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>that you may have\u00a0certainty concerning the things\u00a0you have been taught. <strong>Luke 1:1-4<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the first book, O\u00a0Theophilus, I have dealt with all that Jesus began\u00a0to do and teach,\u00a0<strong><sup>2\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>until the day when\u00a0he was taken up, after he\u00a0had given commands\u00a0through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen.\u00a0<strong><sup>3\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>He presented himself alive to them after his suffering by many proofs, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God. <strong>Acts 1:1-3<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, 2 and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you\u2014unless you believed in vain.3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, 5 and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 6 Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep. 7 Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles. 8 Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared also to me. <strong>1 Corinthians 15:1-7<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><sup>16\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>For we did not follow\u00a0cleverly devised\u00a0myths when we made known to you\u00a0the power and\u00a0coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but\u00a0we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. <strong>2 Peter 1:16<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This sets Christianity apart from the pagan religions around the world, which told myths outside of a set time and place. This sets Christianity apart from religions such as Mormonism and Islam, whose scripture are written by just one person without the evidence of two or three witnesses.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Christ Jesus fulfills the prophesies of the Old Testament.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>I will put enmity between you and the woman,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and between your offspring\u00a0and\u00a0her offspring;<br>he shall bruise your head,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and you shall bruise his heel.\u201d <strong>Genesis 3:15<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For\u00a0dogs encompass me;<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0a company of evildoers\u00a0encircles me;<br>they have\u00a0pierced my hands and feet<sup>[<\/sup><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Psalm%2022&amp;version=ESV#fen-ESV-14221b\"><sup>b<\/sup><\/a><sup>]<\/sup>\u2014<br><strong><sup>17\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>I can count all my bones\u2014<br>they\u00a0stare and gloat over me;<br><strong><sup>18\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>they divide my garments among them,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and for my clothing they cast lots. <strong>Psalm 22:16-18<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Therefore the\u00a0Lord himself will give you a sign.\u00a0Behold, the\u00a0virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name\u00a0Immanuel. <strong>Isaiah 7:14<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Surely he has borne our griefs<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and carried our sorrows;<br>yet we esteemed him stricken,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0smitten by God, and afflicted.<br><strong><sup>5\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>But he was pierced for our transgressions;<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0he was crushed for our iniquities;<br>upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and with his wounds we are healed.<br><strong><sup>6\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>All we like sheep have gone astray;<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0we have turned\u2014every one\u2014to his own way;<br>and the\u00a0Lord\u00a0has laid on him<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0the iniquity of us all. <strong>Isaiah 53:4-6<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For you will not abandon my soul to\u00a0Sheol,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0or let your\u00a0holy one see\u00a0corruption. <strong>Psalm 16:10<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>And when he drew near and saw the city,\u00a0he wept over it,\u00a0<strong><sup>42\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>saying,\u00a0\u201cWould that you, even you, had known on this day the things that make for peace! But now\u00a0they are hidden from your eyes.\u00a0<strong><sup>43\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>For\u00a0the days will come upon you, when your enemies\u00a0will set up a barricade around you and\u00a0surround you and hem you in on every side\u00a0<strong><sup>44\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>and tear you down to the ground, you and your children within you. And\u00a0they will not leave one stone upon another in you, because you did not know\u00a0the time of your\u00a0visitation.\u201d <strong>Luke 19:41-44<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For I\u00a0know that my\u00a0Redeemer lives,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and at the last he will stand upon the\u00a0earth. <strong>Job 19:25<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Religion of Grace Sets Itself Apart from the Religion of Works<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Christianity offers salvation by grace as a gift won by Christ Jesus to be received through faith. All religions invented by humans rely on our works or efforts.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>for\u00a0all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,\u00a0<strong><sup>24\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>and are justified\u00a0by his grace as a gift,\u00a0through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,\u00a0<strong><sup>25\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>whom God\u00a0put forward as\u00a0a propitiation\u00a0by his blood, to be received by faith. <strong>Romans 3:23-25<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For\u00a0by grace you have been saved\u00a0through faith. And this is\u00a0not your own doing;\u00a0it is the gift of God,\u00a0<strong><sup>9\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>not a result of works,\u00a0so that no one may boast. <strong>Ephesians 2:8-9<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Every other religion depends on works for salvation in one way or another, whether that is submission in Islam or the quest to remove karma in the eastern religions.
